By Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia
- Ikigai means the reason to live in Japanese
- A small book and quick read, the author talks about their visit to Japan and how different things are there.
- They visited the village which is said to have the longest living people, and he talks about their lifestyle
- They tend to live 100s of years while the average human lifespan is around 70.
- They live in groups, enjoy together like a festival, celebrate occasions grandly
- They have their own garden for growing crops, and dont depend on external food sources.
- They believe in principles like
- Hara Hachi Bu, only eat till 80% of your stomach
- Wabi Sabi, find peace and hapinees in the things which are misaligned or misordered, and dont complain about it
- Be happy and smile always
- He also mentions about flow state, where you forget about everything which is in the surrounding and get so involved with your work that you never know how much time you spent.
- This is a great strategy for doing Deepwork and getting greater impact, as in flow state your mind is fully focused on that one task.
- I feel this while coding some interesting part, or while sketching/drawing. Some people may find it while reading or jogging.
- While also showing that each and every person has a purpose in the world and they are here for a reason, and we all should find our Ikigai.
- One of the diagram which caught my eyes in the book

-
It has a second part as well, but it is lying in my bookshelf, will have to pick it up and read it
-
Would I read this again? Maybe No
